MID-EAST HOME
EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

Faithfully serving families of McMinn, Monroe, Meigs and Polk counties.

OUR STATE ORGANIZATION

THEA is comprised of eight chapters covering the entire state of Tennessee. Each chapter provides services for local homeschoolers. When you join a chapter, you also join THEA. THEA monitors the Tennessee legislative and judicial arenas, and alerts members to crucial events affecting the freedom of home education.

DEDICATED HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT

Are you a new-to-homeschooling parent, seasoned veteran, or somewhere in between? Mid-East THEA is a Christian group of home-educating families who lift each other up in support and encouragement. Tennessee Home Education Association (THEA) is a state-wide homeschool advocacy group working to protect the rights of homeschoolers in Tennessee, and Mid-East THEA is one of seven chapters across the state who advocate locally for homeschool families!

~~~~~~~~~~ About Us ~~~~~~~~~~
Through yearly membership of Mid-East THEA, with a small annual due of $20 ($21 through PayPal) for the whole family, you will find a variety of support! Connections to various local co-ops and tutorials, family events and activities, an annual used curriculum book sale, optional high school graduation ceremony, active Facebook page, and private email group, are all included in your membership!
CHIMES is a well-known co-op in our region, and the chapter and co-op have a wonderful working relationship over the years! CHANGE is another very popular co-op in the area. They are relatively new, but growing rapidly! Blue Willow is a Charlotte Mason-style tutorial in Riceville and thriving. Mid-East THEA is happy to connect families, and direct them to any of these three, quality, enrichment opportunities!
Officers of the Mid-East THEA Board are also happy and willing to encourage, advise, and assist your family with homeschool questions and needs. We invite you to check us out and consider joining the chapter! Feel free to contact us at the bottom of the website for more information!
Mid-East THEA offers a formal high school graduation ceremony and reception annually to member-families! Commencement Exercises include a Senior Social, optional senior portrait in the local newspaper, eligibility for graduating seniors to apply for the Mid-East THEA Outstanding Student Award and Scholarship, including recognition at the State Capitol in Nashville during THEA Capitol Hill Rally and Reception Day, optional graduate achievement boards to display at Commencement, and more!
Tracking state legislation for House and Senate bills that may affect homeschool families, and taking action when necessary, is THEA's primary purpose, to advocate for member-families. However, part of the mission of Mid-East THEA is to encourage a time of fellowship with local families! Field trips to local attractions, museums, and places of interest in the communities of our chapter are offered each year, and organized through Mid-East THEA. Strikes and Spares Youth Bowling League runs September through May, and additional events such as the Swap Shop! Used Curriculum and Book Sale, High School Graduation, and Family Fall Barn Dance, are main activites offered within the chapter! As we do not post details on Facebook for security purposes, member-families may check their closed-group email for announcements regarding upcoming events!
THEA Captiol Hill Rally and Reception Day, at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville each spring, is also an excellent opportunity to meet with other home educating families across Tennessee, and speak with your legislative representatives about the good report of homeschooling! The Rally is THE most important event each year to protect our rights to educate our children at home. Your family visiting with your state representatives, in their offices, has a direct effect on how they vote on legislation that affects familes just like yours. You do not want to miss this fun, exciting, and civic-filled yearly event!
